Gunung Datuk 2013

Just to complete my 2013, I went to Gunung Datuk, Rembau, twice. Once with Juli and the second one with Abg Zul & gang. No familiar faces during the first trip though but the second trip I knew quite a number of people like Abg Anas, Ryna & Kak Ngah. The climb was excruciating due to lack of exercises and "disturbance", an never failed I complained why do I ever went for mount climbing. But when I finally reached on top, it was all forgotten and replaced by a very wonderful feeling that I have conquered the world. The view is simply breathtaking.

Here are some amazing pictures from the trips;

Life as a programmer: CDateTimeCtrl

Being a programmer gives me "joy". There are of course ups and down in coding.

I am rather new to MFC, specially with C++. Somehow my current manager take the risk to employ me regardless of my lack of C/C++  industrial experience. I was a Java developer before. Somehow he believed that I can cope up with the work.

Anyway, I was working with CDateTimeCtrl the other day, trying to make a living. So my boss said,

Mr D: "Ayu, you need to add enable & disable control over it, you know..."
Me: ".... really? So how should the from date & to date behave then? The function should work for both or one of them...?"
Mr D: "Both please."

So I was browsing around digging out some code (in order to maintain source code convention) see how is the correct way to do it. Its already evening before I finally knew how to show the checkbox in the CDateTimeCtrl. Such bloody DTS_SHOWNONE... it doesn't even give me a clue its related to a checkbox. I felt so miserably stupid. Urghhh! :bang_head:

For my own reference, please keep this link.

I'm stil struggling with the create new events UI aftermath. This is when you fix something and something else goes wrong. Please...please... let me sleep in peace tonight. Need to keep trying.

Gua Tempurung - HIKAT (26 October 2013)

That Friday morning I was thrilled that tomorrow is going to be my "ice breaking" session to the outdoor world again. This trip is going to be my third addition to my caving experience, and second visit to Gua Tempurung, Gopeng, Perak.

The limestone-base cave was named according to its dehusked coconut shell shape, which in Malay called "tempurung". Streching more than 3km long, its one of the longest cave in the Peninsular Malaysia. It is believed that the cave has been in existence since 8000 BC. The view inside is beyond words, specially at the beginning. Spectator will be awed by the super-large space inside the cave, it can actually fit in few Boeings. The view was just spectacular, even for a second timer like me.

This time around, I joined HIKAT, the group I joined since then. There was 17 participants this time including few familiar faces and a long time team mate & of course we made new friends. There are few things you need to keep in mind for the trip;

Things to bring;
Headlamp, waterpoof bag
Water - you can't drink the water inside the cave .... guano much...
A spare torchlight & batteries would be helpful
Some tits-bits - you WILL get hungry

Things to wear;
Preferably water shoes as sponge shoes tends to weight you out, avoid very loose garment and use easy dry one. If possible get a knee guard and long sleeves.

Thing to remember;
Watch your head & never walk alone in the dark cave, get a buddy.

The view outside the cave

Some inscriptions about Gua Tempurung
Below are the list of highlights of the cave we came across accordingly;

Golden Flowstone
There are several tour packages you can choose from, and we took the "Grand Tour" which will span around 3 ~ 4 hours. At the beginning, we have to climb 640 steps to reach the  where you can see the golden-like stalactite and stalagmite flowing down.

The Wind Tunnel
The chamber was windy. The tour guide did mentioned that if outside temperature is hot, then inside will be cold and vice versa. As soon you reached the platform you can feel the cool breeze, the intensity depends on outside weather.

Tin Mine Cavern
Found tin mining utensils as well left over by the communists during the war.

Tongkat
A tall stalactite resembling a walking stick.

Fallen Warrior & Battlefield Cavern
A cavern with an amazing formation of a fallen warrior in a battlefield.

Anyway, there are total 1000++ steps all together for our grand tour (according to our guide) that we have to go through. 230 steps to go down for our river adventure and the rest are climbing. Then we come accross a slide, quite intimidating for me at least, but it is not really that scary. Our river adventure starts from this point on. Wading through about half an hour we reached an open space on the eastern side of the cave facing North-South highway. Everybody was taking a break there and having light eateries.

From left: Shah, Wan Muhsin, Rais - HIKAT Team

We continue our journey into the dark cave, braving the river, survived few falls and cold. But the view inside the dark pathways was spectacular. The built of the natural rock formation was simply outstanding. And who would expect there's sparkling white marbles embedded in the wall. Anyway, the journey quite long and dark and prepare to feel intimidated by the small space & darkness.

Finally the group reached the exit (basically the entrance door but down in the river). I survived the dark with a sprained right ankle. Barely able to walk. Luckily, my friend Zura & her husband helped me all the way to the exit. After the cave exploration, the team continue with the flying fox activity & archery. I take it a day off. I think I had enough fun already. haha. After lunch which we had a feedback session. Thank goodness everybody is in one piece.

Looking forward for another great adventure... and great friends.

Tiger & Snow

I first took them in on July 2013, about 10 weeks old. Snow was very friendly but Tiger was reluctant to be taken or moved away from his savior house. The girl saved four kittens from behind her kitchen where the mother gave birth to them on 25th April 2013.

The history behind these two teenage cats starts after I was heartbroken with the death of Minnie's three newborn. The strongest, Sansa finally died due to severe worm infection, but I think her recovery was made worse by my mistake that makes her catch fever in her most dear timing. It was really heartbreaking to think that it might be my mistake that contributed to her dying. I wish I can forgive myself one day. Rest in peace.

Sansa
Then early July when I'm ready to move into my new apartment, I thought that I might want to have some company. So I googled whether anybody wants to give away their kittens or rescued pet. Then I contacted a girl from USJ, quite near to my new place, about the ad she post in the pet rescue site. She said she already gave away one of the kitten and one has died. So there are 2 more kittens, a girl & a boy. Instinctively I told myself that I have to take both of them and it was one of the best decision to make. They are not only jolly but gave life to my sorry apartment.

Snow - 4 months

Tiger - 4 months

Now, they are actually going to be 6 months this October. Took Tiger for neutered last month, hopefully his spraying hormone become best kept secret. For Snow, my sweet little girl, maybe will find her a handsome tom to mate.

Hope to see them grow healthy and happy   =)

HOME SWEET HOME

Lately, I have been bombarded with multiple incidents... more of consequences of decisions. It was part of life, we make mistakes, we learnt. We got to know people around us & can make more accurate judgement on people & events. Changes are one scary thing.

Hall

Anyway, I moved in to my new apartment. Its small but its cozy, its rather heavy on my budget but its mine, & its my sanctuary. Its okay, I'll manage somehow.

I "employ" a pair of sibling to take care of it when I'm off to work. Although not much help, but they are enough.

The left picture is the hall area, the dining table hasn't arrive yet & the curtain is half way through.

Kitchen

On the right, is the kitchen, this is how it looks like before I put the grill and glass window. Perhaps will update the latest pictures on my house next time.

Anyway, the sink is still the same one. So many thing I wish I can do in the apartment, but of course there's always cash constraint.

By the way, I haven't tried the swimming pool. Its still remain a mystery...

Master Bedroom

The master bedroom is rather spacious. If ever I got extra budget to do renovation, I'll renovate this part of the apartment first.

Interior is basically the same thing. Just I added the grill and the glass window in the backyard. Tiger & Snow seems to enjoy the veranda a lot. Maybe they felt the cramp inside.

Enjoying Night View

The satisfaction of having your own place is beyond words. I wish I can tell everyone I knew to get a home of their own first thing in life.

Finally I have a place of my own. Finally I can really say, "Home Sweet Home".

Alhamdulillah.

14~17 September 2012

I was so anxious and a bit excited to yet another challenging rendezvous for the second time to Lata Lansir. Situated in the brink of Dungun district in Terengganu state, Hutan Lipur Chemerong is really a catch for any quest thirst jungle trekkers. The organizer decided to go by bus, it was more enjoyable for me at least, and less tiring. The road starting from the highway to the target location was rather narrow & holes-everywhere, though it wasn’t curvy much. Although its just 32 km from the highway but we reached there after an hour and 15 minutes. Roughly.

After a brief exercise and quick instructions we depart at 11.30 am. Normally, the organizer will divide the group to smaller groups according to their fitness level and functions. That day we have 4 groups;
  • ·         Runner / guider >> So called the fastest and function to set up our camp
  • ·         Mid section  >> Moderately fast
  • ·         Sweeper  >> Picking up the late comers
  • ·         Last sweeper  >> Final pick-up

Our group pass by these trail;

First day;
Chemerong Waterfall à Kem Balak à Kem Y

Second Day;
Kem Y  à Taman Bonsai à Puncak Berembun (1108m) à Lata Lansir à Sungai Bangang à Puncak Chemerong à Seraya Besar à Kem Y
Note: Jeram Orkid was skipped.

Third Day @ Last Day;
Kem Y à Kem Balak à Chemerong Waterfall

The trek
The trail is quite challenging specially in the beginning. One hill we need to climb was called “Bukit Taubat” (Repent Hill) where I personally felt repenting. The good thing is there’s very less leeches. It is advisable to wear a trekking sandal rather than a hiking boots because there are few rivers we have to cross and the trail is not too dangerous. Although, always stay in a group as the trail is home to tigers & boars, specially going down through Sg. Bangang to Seraya Besar. We had lunch at Kem Balak and continue our journey to Kem Y rather breezy. Kem Y was a occupied by our group and another from Maybank that night. Our gogo decided to camp at Kem Y due to congestion at Lata Lansir and there are 2 sick persons.

Next day we hike to Lata Lansir with lighter bags, because we are coming back down to Kem Y for the night. I felt excited as the picture of Taman Bonsai becoming more vivid in my mind. Nearing the Berembun peak, the flora was grown with lushes of bonsai trees that crafted the scenic environment. We can’t help ourselves from keeping  the view in our cameras. Finally at a height of 1108 meters we reached Puncak Berembun. Reaching Lata Lansir is now a just  a quick ½ hour descend on a steep & rocky slope. We reached Kolam Puteri just before noon. Its just a 50 meters walk to Lata Lansir.

 As expected it was congested with other groups looking for a hideaway from the hustle bustle of the city. Being a second timer to Lata Lansir, it can never be a bore to me. But there used to be a tree springing out towards the Kolam Puteri slide, but now its lifeless with just its empty branches left. I brought 2 friends (Wan & Shah) to the “Secret Garden” as I name it to reminisce my previous visit. It still remain the same. After taking some group pictures we head down to Kem Y about 2 pm.

Going down we’ll pass by Sungai Bangang (Dumb River J) on the way, crossing puncak Chemerong all the way to the Seraya Besar, which is actually a name of a tree, Seraya. This is the trail we need to be extra careful with as it is known to be the place where the tigers roam about. In spite of its lousy name, Sg Bangang really a very nice rive pool. Again, we need to take off our shoes to cross the river and continue hike up.

After that, nothing is too interesting apart from the same Taman Bonsai replica on the way. Our journey back was accompany with a drizzle of rain that cools down our patience due to excessive hiking. Nearing Kem Y, I was becoming mentally fatigued and starts to grumble many other silly stuff. It was a big relief when we finally hear the voices of our group from the camp. I am thankful to my hike gang, Heiry and Wan for just being there. We were greet by the most delicious smell on earth, food. Well, when you are hungry everything is super delicious. J

The next day after group photo we hike down to civilizations remembering all the sweetest memories of CBL.

The whole bunch J
